One of the more romantic cottages we offer for rent, this beautiful newer cottage on the shores of Pigeon Hill Bay is a great retreat for honeymooners or a small family looking to get away from it all. Close to the villages of Steuben, Milbridge, and the entrance to the Schoodic Point section of Acadia National Park, this property is also a wildlife lover's dream. Despite the label that this property is on an island, it is easily accessible by car over a causeway.
With views from every room, you will love preparing meals in this kitchen with stainless steel counter tops and appliances. Curl up on the couch on a cool day and warm up by the gas fireplace stove while watching birds on the bay. At low tide, clam diggers work along the shore. Be sure to introduce yourself and buy some of Maine's most delicious natural treat. Live Lobsters and Crabs may also be purchased daily from nearby Dorr Lobster Pound, also located on Bar Island.

BOATS: Boats are not included with this rental but guests may rent kayaks or SUP's for delivery and pick up to the property from Sunrise Canoe & Kayak.
SECURITY DEPOSIT: No, the owner of this property does not require a security deposit, however, guests are still financially responsible for non-accidental damages at the property.

Pure tranquility! This little seaside cottage was absolutely AMAZING! My 17 year old son and I squeezed in a last minute week before he starts his senior year and this place was perfect! We had everything we needed right here, kitchen had everything we needed (Im a chef/restaurant owner). We dug clams right behind the cottage at low tide, fished at high tide, got visited by 2 fawns and a bunny every day, watched the seals around sunset and soaked up every bit of this peaceful sanctuary! We will be back!

All of the communications from the On the Water in Maine team were detailed and very clear. We had never worked with a vacation rental company before and were very impressed with the care taken to make sure that all of the information was complete.

We loved every minute of our stay at Bar Island Cottage. We had rain during parts of the first couple of days, but were very content to stay in with the wonderful fireplace, watch movies and play games together. As soon as we arrived, we felt at home. Everything that we could have needed to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable was provided.
On the Friday before we left, we again chose to stay at "home" and enjoy sitting on the deck. We were rewarded with an osprey show! First there was one fishing in the morning, then in the afternoon, there were five, possibly parents and young. We had never withnessed ospreys fishing before and it was awesome! A seal friend also popped its head up to say "Hi."
The sunsets and stars were magnificent!
We would highly recommend this property to anyone interested and are hoping to visit again.
Thank you for allowing us to have this amazing experience in Maine!

Bar Island Cottage is beautifully appointed right on the water. We watched the sunset over the little bay and enjoyed the peacefulness of the slight sea breeze and soft calls of sea birds. At low tide, our two boys played happily on the rocks along the beach. The cottage is open and inviting and has everything you need. We used this spot as a launching pad to Acadia National Park, the Schoodic Pennisula, the Bold Coast, West Quoddy Lighthouse, and so much more.
