Sea Gate Cottage is located on Arrowsic Island, a rocky, woodsy, serene slice of Midcoast Maine. Overlooking the majestic Kennebec River, Sea Gate offers expansive water views and a quiet yet convenient location for exploring some exceptional Maine destinations. An open-air dining deck, a screened outdoor living room, a leafy hammock, and bright, airy indoor spaces with large windows invite your family to connect and enjoy comfortable, nature-infused relaxation.

With 3 acres of woods and 250 feet of tidal waterfront, Sea Gate’s idyllic setting is only six miles from downtown Bath. It’s even closer to the Island’s historic light stations, secluded swimming pond, nature hikes, and, on neighboring Georgetown Island, gorgeous sandy beaches. Strategically perched half way between Bath and the Atlantic Ocean, Sea Gate is your gateway to both refreshing tranquility and iconic Maine excursions.

The cottage is well designed with a comfortable, seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The outdoor living room, reached by its own covered portico, is a special place for practicing morning yoga, reading, or catching up on work. Early risers might spy bald eagles fishing, a graceful blue heron, jumping sea bass, bobbing harbor seals, as well as pleasure boats and charter ships sailing by. Make use of the house binoculars to watch it all unfold. Coffee at the breezy dining deck keeps you close to preparing breakfast in the well-appointed kitchen. Comfortable seating in the living room overlooks floor to ceiling windows and a working fireplace. Sit back and surrender to the relaxing rhythms of sun, moon and tide.

Life by the river is mesmerizing all day long but truly sparkles in the hours before sundown. The outdoor living room is the ideal place to unwind. Sip your favorite beverage as you watch the tide create powerful currents and swirling eddies, while the sun casts a diamond-like glitter across the water. With its throw blankets and festive lighting, it’s a comfortable place to relax and enjoy the outdoors long into the evening. There's also a small vintage cottage on the property where the discreet caretakers stay on occasion. Sea Gate is tastefully furnished and recently updated with new kitchen appliances, textiles, and fresh paint.

On a hot day with low tide and a bit of moxie, you can swim from the property in the Kennebec’s refreshing mix of salt and fresh water. Kayaks and canoes can be launched in harmony with the tide; outfit yourself with water shoes for the foray. Kayak tours, lessons and delivery are available from Seaspray.

If more activity calls you, the trail to Squirrel Point Light is merely 1.5 miles from Sea Gate’s door. Don’t miss Arrowsic’s other fantastic light station, Doubling Point Lighthouse. Fond of swimming, sunbathing or paddling? Try beautiful Sewall Pond, nestled in pristine conservation land and 2.3 miles from Sea Gate. Bring your bikes and pedal (or walk) the Island’s timeless gravel roads. Hike meadows and rocky ridges to a reversing waterfall, 5.6 miles away in Georgetown. Exhilarating days await you at gorgeous Mile and Half Mile beach at Reid State Park. Then hit Five Islands Lobster, serving meals on picnic tables overlooking a working waterfront (and 5 islands). Visit charming villages such as Wiscasset, explore Bath’s scenic hikes and maritime museum, shop at fiber mecca Halcyon Yarn, or try an amazing whale watch! Sea Gate cottage is within easy reach of them all.

BEACH CLASSIFICATION: We have categorized this property as having or being near a sandy beach. More specifically for this property - it is a short 9-mile drive to one Maine's best beaches at Reid State Park Beaches. There is not an actual usable sandy beach in front of this property.

Your agency was delightful to work with and we look forward to working with you again in the future.
Property
Nice house with awesome views from the living room, master bedroom and screened porch. Lots of casement windows with good screens so we were able to get plenty of fresh air. The screened porch is a terrific place to sit having your morning coffee, an afternoon read or an evening cocktail. Was too bad that there's not a downstairs powder room or that the living room furniture was all oriented towards the fireplace rather than the spectacular water view. We enjoyed our stay but next year will be looking for a place more directly on the water with a dock for our kayaks and, hopefully, a bit less in the woods.

The house is situated in a cluster of trees and thus very cool in summer days. The location is very serene and quiet offering a great sense of 'getting away from it all'. Yet it's an easy ride to town for lobster and other goodies. Nice house design and layout, and the screened-in porch was perfect for afternoon tea. The view from the deck is unobstructed and expansive. Great place for a vacation!

All of our interations with On the Water in Maine were very positive. From the reservation, to check in, to departure was very organized and thorough.
Property
Our family, which includes two small children, have stayed at Seagate Cottage twice now with one of them being an extended stay. The house is in a beautiful secluded location along the peaceful Kennebeck River. We enjoyed both stays for a quite a few reasons. Just a few are the thick woods, tidal waters, rocks to explore, occasional large boat passing by, swimming and beautiful sunsets. Once while we were there we even got to see a Navel Ship launch from Bath Iron Works (amazing sight). The screened in detached porch and the front deck were our favorite spots. Also, the location is close to everything with our favorites being Five Islands, Reid State Park and Popham Beach.

The staff at On the Water in Maine is very outgoing and helpful. We loved the house's design, wood floors, big windows, tasteful and very comfortable. Having cocktails out on the deck, watching the sunlight play off the Kennebec River was fantastic. Great location, quiet yet only 10 minute drive to Bath.

West Bath, Popham Beach & Westport Island - Southern Midcoast

Site of the Popham Colony, Phippsburg was between 1607 and 1608 the first English settlement attempted in New England. Popham Beach is in Phippsburg where it is routinely recognized as one of the best beaches in the entire USA. If it isn't the best, it is certainly the least visted - with lots of room to stretch out. West Bath neighbors Popham Beach and Westport Island is just to the north.
