Quite possibly the nicest vacation rental on the Pemaquid penninsula, this beautiful cottage in Bristol, 20 minutes south of the village of Damariscotta, is a great Maine vacation retreat. It underwent a major renovation over the winter of 2014/15 and although the rustic lines are still there, this is like an almost new cottage. The mix of old and new is spectacular! Pottery Barn could come do a catalog shoot at this house, and no staging would be needed.
The cottage is located in a family neighborhood. The property owner's cousins and other family own surrounding real estate. While this cottage is the first one along the road leading into the family community, renters will feel welcomed by others in the neighborhood. The large lawn to the right of the cottage as you look at the property, along with the beach, belongs to a family member of Pinetree's Owner. Guests renting this home may use the lawn as long as they use care to clean up after themselves.
Pinetree Cottage is located in Mid-Coast Maine, right on the Ocean, exactly one and a half hours northeast of Portland and perfectly situated along the middle of the coast, between Portland and Camden. This is an area of rocky unspoiled shoreline, gentle inlets, charming fishing villages and a relaxed lifestyle. Return to a simpler life of breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, the freshest and most delicious seafood in the world, spectacular coastal scenery and the scent of sea salt in the air.
This lovingly decorated and cared for cottage consists of an approximately 2000 square foot building with a covered porch and open deck overlooking the ocean, a new bright and open kitchen, and 7 bedrooms with 4 bathrooms. A gravel beach is located on the property as well as a shared deep water dock. Boating in the area is wonderful. The kayaking in this area is world famous, and you can explore dozens of pristine islands right from off of the dock.
A local lobster pound is just a short distance away. Damariscotta, with its famous harbor, restaurants and a Hannaford`s shopping center, is only 20 minutes from the house. Pemaquid Point Beach, one of Maine`s most gorgeous sandy beaches and home to the most photographed lighthouse in the world, Pemaquid Point Light, is about 10 minutes from the house.
This is a short drone video taken in August of 2016 that shows the landscape and ocean around the property...
BOATS INCLUDED? None, however River Mist Kayaks will deliver kayaks, canoes, or paddle boards to the property.

This is our third rental from On the Water in Maine, and each time, my appreciation for their detail, efficiency, responsiveness, and thoughtfulness increases. Satisfied customer!
This was the second time we've stayed in The Pinetree Cottage. It's a beautiful home in a spectacular setting (especially when surrounded by fall foliage!). We appreciated the many spaces to either gather or have quiet time by yourself. Breakfasting on the porch became a favorite thing, and it's great to have four bathrooms. If you have a large party and intend to use the single beds--they are very firm and are uncomfortable for me (but that might be your preference). Also, be aware that you are in the middle of a very private family compound. This is good because it's relatively quiet and very peaceful. But the dock is shared--and so you will have people occasionally walking within yards of your front door. The first time this happened, we were taken aback; but our neighbors were very gracious and friendly, and we soon grew accustomed to this and appreciated the privilege of enjoying this cottage for a week.

In general it was good. Finding a property and working to secure the property was easy, and the people were very pleasant. The check in and check out process was easy.
The view was absolutely amazing. The house was beautiful. The property was serene and quiet.

Great team. Responded quickly when we had questions. Clear directions and responses. Even sent an email warning us about Saturday morning traffic leaving the area.
The house and the setting are picture perfect. Watching the boats go by, swimming off the dock, watching the sun rise, listening to the waves wash ashore all night, and eating lobster fresh off the boat made for a memorable vacation.

Justin was extremely responsive to our questions. We really appreciated Justin coming to the house on Sunday to deliver more fans and propane gas. So impressed with On the Water in Maine, Inc. I won't rent from anyone else! I trust them completely.
Pinetree cottage is an exquisite location with room for our family to be together or spread out through the the house and outside. This newly refurbished home was updated thoughtfully, blending the old and new. We loved it here. You just can't beat the view! Having water access for kayaking and swimming was a delight! Wish we had better outside seating to enjoy the view, but we enjoyed sitting on the lawn and looking out towards the ocean.

Very well handled from the beginning with no questions. Before we could think of things to ask here comes an email explaining it. Justin, the gentleman that did the check in was wonderful.
This home is amazing and very well decorated. The views from the house are like moving postcards. This has to be the best location ever. We could have sat on the porch the entire time.

This is the second time we've rented from On the Water in Maine. The first time, I was a bit dizzy with all the emails and instructions. We've never had such detailed communications with a rental agency before. This time, I was very grateful to be able to express some concerns and ask questions (by phone) about the property before we rented (we had a less-than-satisfactory experience last year from a VRBO rental, and were a bit wary.) This time, I was not taken by surprise at all the emails and reminders and I appreciated them. Also, during the week I did have one occasion to call about maintenance, and that was painless.
A wonderful house and spectacular setting! We especially enjoyed the spaciousness of the house -- plenty of room for folks to find a quiet corner or all gather in one room, whatever is desired. Many extra, unexpected touches made our stay a pleasure -- like two TVs, the gas stove that kept things cozy, so many bathrooms, and very comfortable couches and chairs--plenty of seating for all of us. Least favorite feature? The twin beds were uncomfortable.
