This beautiful waterfront cottage is located in a quiet residential neighborhood as the last property on a dead-end lane. The cottage sits on 2 private acres with 400' of shoreline on Rockland Harbor in Owls Head. Just over the town line from the abutting city of Rockland; head north for a mile and enjoy the happening Main Street town life with restaurants, galleries, shopping, museums, and theater. Continue north for another 7 miles to the picturesque communities of Rockport and Camden and enjoy what they have to offer as well. Head south and experience "the way life used to be" in Owls Head, Thomaston, Spruce Head, and the St. George peninsula.

This is a wonderful place for families to rent looking to enjoy great scenery and get out and explore the numerous activities offered by the area. Outside you have wooden stairs leading to a small pebble beach, perfect for tying up your Kayak. Thanks to the Rockland Breakwater, the ocean remains very calm and it is great for kayaking. The cottage is comprised of an older one story original section and a new section next door with a second larger kitchen, 2 additional bedrooms, living room with futon and a bathroom. The entire cottage is now a spacious comfortable retreat with ocean views from almost every room.

Please note that this property is located near the industrial end of Rockland. There is a shipyard close by, as well as a station where train cars off-load concrete onto barges. While many past Guests have enjoyed the sights of shipyard activity, occasionally a project at the shipyard may result in loud noises during normal operating hours for the shipyard, 7am - 3:30pm M-F.

BEACH CLASSIFICATION: We have categorized this property as having or being near a sandy beach. More specifically for this property - there is a pea-sized / pebbly beach about 100 feet wide in front to the cottage. Not necessarily a "swimming beach" - this is a good beach for sitting at in folding chairs or launching kayaks. There is not an actual fine sandy beach at this property, but the beach itself is better than most in the area and that is why we have classified it as being "on" a beach.

NEED EXTRA ROOM? Just a short distance away, is a quaint comfortable guest suite, which can accommodate another couple (2 guests), while remaining close to the rest of the group. Click HERE to visit the Owls Head Guest Suite property page.

On the Water in Maine were very quick with responses. The contract was very clear with bold lettering on the important items. When we phoned to say we had arrived it was stressed to call the office with ANY problems. The phone call was personal in regards that Justin said the weather looked good for the week, it felt like we were staying at a friends house.
Property
Open floor plan with an amazing view of the bay. The huge deck was incredible. The rental was immaculate and stocked with everything we needed. The grounds were very well maintained. The rental was at the end of a very quiet street but just up the main road were many restaurants and shops. We appreciated the brochures that were collected for us. There were so many "little touches" like little reading lights in each bedroom.

We love this property. Our favorite feature is the deck and view from the deck. Whether cloudy or sunny, at sunrise or sunset, the scenery is beautiful and restores the mind and spirit.

On The Water in Maine is a prime example of what a service company should be. The company equivalent of what Maine says about itself: the way life should be. If only every company could follow OTWIM's lead. Tif and Justin, owners, are responsive and helpful in every way. Their houses are prepped with guidance books, posted suggestions, and one quickly sees they have thought the whole rental process through from the renters' point of view. In making the renters' experience good, OTWIM does well. The perfect formula. Our country would be in an even better place if all businesses took this logical approach.

The best aspect of the Stone's Throw house is the long porch right on Rockland's bay. Any time of day there is goings on of interest, from the birds, the tides, the boats, the ferries, the breakwater with the lighthouse at the end, the dry dock where boats are being refurbished across the inlet. One gets a large sky view of the sun rising and falling, the clouds, and the fog forming, retreating, and reforming. The house itself is an usual mix of rooms and passageways, the evident result of numerous renovations and rebuildings over the years. It is chock full of knickknacks, books, games, pictures that the owners have brought into their home from year to year.

On the Water in Maine is a class act as always. That's the reason we keep coming back. We love the property and the no hassle method of renting. If something ever needs attention (vary rarely) Justin is always there to take care of things.

We have been coming to this house for six years running and love the location and amenities. Our favorite feature is the huge deck facing the water and the realtive ease of getting into Rockland for restaurants, etc.

Cute house, more than adequately appointed and furnished. ..accessibility to Rockland and the peninsula as well as Friendship, Cushing and nearby towns make it especially desirable.

OTWIM has gotten our repreat business because they are a quality agency that is customer orientated to the max. We've rented homes in the past directly from owners and it can be very variable as to what each owner does or provides to their renters. We know that OTWIM has high standards and that there won't be any issues with properties we rent through them. We have only had one issue on arrival in five years of using OTWIM and with one phone call, Justin was there to correct it immediately. What service!

This is the fifth year we have rented this property and we keep coming back for a reason. It's got great ocean frontage with a huge deck and small beach for swimming, it's very private and it's also close to town. With two couples staying here and the cottage actually two houses joined into one, it makes for great space when either couple wants to be on their own.

I can't say enough about how Justin, Emily and the entire staff at OTWIM are customer orientated to the max. Whether having an issue with the property or just asking a question, everyone seems to have the customer's interests at heart. This is what keeps us coming back. This was an annual visit up to Maine for us. We enjoy the state and the mid-coast area immensely and always look forward to coming. We took a sailing excursion on the Appledore along with a terrific cruise to view Puffins from Port Clyde. I highly recommend the cruise with "Puffin Pete". We did the Farnsworth on a rainy day and enjoyed the exhibits very much. We have a new appreciation of Wyeth's watercolors. Finally took in Montpelier over in Thomaston along with several flea markets and antique stops. The Celtic Festival in Belfast, Beth's Farm Market, The North Atlantic Blues Festival....I could go on and on. It was a wonderful three weeks!!!

You have such a wonderful property in Owl's Head and we feel grateful for being able to experience staying there for a few weeks. I can't tell you how comfortable we are when we're there. It's truly a very special place! We so look forward to coming back again next year. The property has become a favorite of ours due to its location, privacy and amenities. Plenty of space to wander the grounds, the ocean at your doorstep with a swimmable beach and a deck with views that can't be beat. It's a great house or is it houses? We love the fact that with a foursome each couple has virtually their own space in each side of the cottage.
