This architect-designed Maine cottage is nestled in a 3 acre natural woodland setting along the majestic Kennebec River. Sweeping water views amaze guests from the 250 feet of tidal waterfront. Seagate is a top-notch base for unwinding, exploring nearby beaches and getting to know the quaint towns of mid-coast Maine.
The cottage pampers guests with three distinct spots for water-gazing: a breezy dining deck, a comfortable living room with floor to ceiling windows and usable fireplace, and a large detached screened porch. To the back of the cottage lie quiet woods and dirt roads great for walkers. There's also a small vintage cottage on the property where the discreet caretakers stay on occasion. Seagate is tastefully furnished and recently updated with new kitchen appliances, textiles, and fresh paint.
While Seagate feels restful, it's only 6 miles to downtown Bath and 9 miles to the beaches of Reid State Park, making it ideal for balancing activity with relaxation. Guests can take along the portable gas grill and barbecue at the beach for a memorable picnic.
On a hot day and with a bit of moxie you can swim from the property. Children enjoy trotting in the mud flats or exploring the rocks. There is good kayaking on the river and kayaks can be easily rented with delivery from Seaspray Kayaks. The island's own Sewell Pond has very warm water and is just 2 miles down the road. The Maritime Museum in Bath, Five Islands Lobster Co. in Georgetown and Squirrel Point Lighthouse trails are unbeatable local destinations. Popham Beach is also well worth visiting and about a half hour's drive. Let the pines and sweet fern, the eagles and herons, sunsets and starlight work their magic on you when you vacation at Seagate!

I was able to make all the arrangements online or via email which was very convenient and the process was seamless. The one question I had about the property was answered promptly via email. It was our first time working with your agency and we were very impressed. All the correspondence and preparations were clear and well-organized and the house was immaculately clean.
The screen room/porch overlooking the water. There was always a beautiful breeze from the water and we were able to be out there enjoying the beautiful surroundings, no matter what the weather was. Also, the location was wonderful - not overrun by tourists, little traffic, quiet and serene.

The condition of the house exceeded our expectations. It was absolutely spotless. The living areas were open and had great flow so you could all be in the same room, whether you were in the kitchen, dining, or living room. Many large windows allowed us to enjoy the water view from every room, and to allow plenty of sunlight in. The screened in porch is what really sold us. We spent hours and hours there making it our outdoor living room. Since the walkway is also roofed, we could enjoy the outdoor space rain or shine. We cooked most meals at the house during our 2 weeks at Seagate. We had absolutely everything we needed from cookie sheets, to measuring spoons and cups, cheese grater, plenty of pots and pans. We appreciated the owner's thoughtful touches such as the driftwood sculpture outside the kitchen window, flower boxes, the hammock, games, books, grill, you name it. The house is well located between Popham and Reid, a quick ride to Bath, as well as nearby favorites such as Five Island and Osprey Restaurant. Sewell Pond was a great bonus.

You guys were great! Extremely well-organized and easy to work with.
We loved Seagate Cottage. The screened in porch quickly became our favorite spot to lounge, read, and watch the river. The house itself was very well-appointed and comfortable.

As a return customer we can't say enough great things about this property! A secluded oasis with breathtaking water views that is only a 10 minute drive to town! The expansive windows allow you to take in the water from every view but the screened in porch is by far our favorite part!

All of our questions were answered before I even had to ask.
What a gem. Beautiful waterfront views from each window. The house is tucked nicely in the wooded lot to ensure privacy & keeps the house cool on warm days. The porches were the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee or a glass of wine as the sun sets (gorgeous views). Thanks for a memorable vacation. We will definitely return.

On the Water in Maine is a company with integrity. Justin et al are very professional, reliable, prompt with returning calls and emails, and well informed about the properties and the area. We have great confidence in their ability to solve any issue before it becomes a problem.
Compact comfortable house offers tranquility, birds, and beautiful river views. A second living room - a large
screened porch - is furnished as a charming outdoor room and sits apart from the house in the breeze from the water. This is a lovely peaceful spot for getting away from it all. We intend to come back.

On the Water in Maine was incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to make our stay extremely comfortable and easy! Prior to our stay I had asked for some recommendations for horse back riding options. Within hours I received an email back with detailed descriptions of two places that would be within an hour of our property. Upon arrival, I called to check in and was greeted by an extremely nice gentleman that just seemed happy to be doing his job! We did not have any issues while staying at the cottage but I know that if we had, the agency would have done everything they could to fix the problem. I can't wait to rent from On the Water in Maine again!
Seagate cottage was everything we had hoped for in our vacation rental and then some! By far our favorite feature of the property was the screened in room where we spent many evenings watching the sun set and enjoying a beverage! You simply can not beat the location! The property provides privacy and quiet while only being a short ride to town. We also loved the ability to throw our kayak in the water right from our property. Seagate truly made our vacation one for the memory book!

Your agency was delightful to work with and we look forward to working with you again in the future.
Nice house with awesome views from the living room, master bedroom and screened porch. Lots of casement windows with good screens so we were able to get plenty of fresh air. The screened porch is a terrific place to sit having your morning coffee, an afternoon read or an evening cocktail. Was too bad that there's not a downstairs powder room or that the living room furniture was all oriented towards the fireplace rather than the spectacular water view. We enjoyed our stay but next year will be looking for a place more directly on the water with a dock for our kayaks and, hopefully, a bit less in the woods.

The house is situated in a cluster of trees and thus very cool in summer days. The location is very serene and quiet offering a great sense of 'getting away from it all'. Yet it's an easy ride to town for lobster and other goodies. Nice house design and layout, and the screened-in porch was perfect for afternoon tea. The view from the deck is unobstructed and expansive. Great place for a vacation!

All of our interations with On the Water in Maine were very positive. From the reservation, to check in, to departure was very organized and thorough.
Our family, which includes two small children, have stayed at Seagate Cottage twice now with one of them being an extended stay. The house is in a beautiful secluded location along the peaceful Kennebeck River. We enjoyed both stays for a quite a few reasons. Just a few are the thick woods, tidal waters, rocks to explore, occasional large boat passing by, swimming and beautiful sunsets. Once while we were there we even got to see a Navel Ship launch from Bath Iron Works (amazing sight). The screened in detached porch and the front deck were our favorite spots. Also, the location is close to everything with our favorites being Five Islands, Reid State Park and Popham Beach.
